Issue # 14-A Shattered Clasp

A Shattered Clasp

*~~~~*

The Range Rover rolls over the embankment coming to rest on its roof, both Rayvenwing men tossed into the windshield like burly ragdolls. Mikel curses lividly, his forehead bleeding copiously while his cousin returns to this seat with neck snapping speed.

“I knew it!! I knew they`d find us! Son-of-a-bitch that’s Merrium!” Erick shouts tossing himself to the left as razor sharp talons a foot long slice through the Rover`s side as if the steel were tissue paper. Mikel shoves his cousin aside as he fumbles to get the .45 free from its holster. Working upside down was unpleasant and irritating, at least out of bed he admits.

A roar that shatters the windshield erupts as a pale blue foot makes another swipe at the vehicle. Clouds of thick dark smoke surround them while the Guardian fires off one of his precious sacred rounds as a warning shot. Merrium exhales a ball of flame down onto the Rover, her long tail pounding the ground in frustration.

“Stay inside the car!” Mikel snarls heatedly.

“You don`t have to tell me twice!” Erick replies vigorously. Mikel then kicks out the spider-webbed front glass to crawl into the snow. He comes to his boots with the Glock steady on the wide scaled head directly before him.

“Have you lost all common sense Merrium?!” Mikel inquires turning his face from her exhalation of fumes and fire. “To attack us in front of humans is foolhardy even for you!” He hopes the mortals that were in range had been knocked unconscious or Erick would be altering memories for hours!

She lowers her head, her deadly yellow eyes a mere foot from him and roars in defiance of him and his bullets. The blast blows his hair back from his face. He knows what she wants but he`ll be damned if he will just hand over his cousin to her or any dragon.

“I warn you Merrium I will not hesitate to drop you. I too fight for family.” Asshole though he may be Mikel adds keeping the Glock pinned between her livid eyes. His shot wouldn`t kill her, dragons skulls were too thick for even his .45 to penetrate, but she would surely feel it.

She raises a dark blue lip, showing him canines as long as he stood tall but finally she does back from him and the Rover.”Now return to Vestra and tell her I am guarding Erick. Offer her my apologies for his youth and stupidity and relay my pledge that Erick will wed Deria in due time should the sisters so decree it.”

He blocks out the shouts of protest now rising from his mortified cousin.

The powder blue beast growls so deep a thunderous growl that the ground under his feet trembles then she snaps bone crushing jaws at him in utter vexation. The Guardian tightens his grip on the Glock and braces himself for what may happen next.
